Illegal guesthouse busted with four mainland “money exchange gang” apprehended
The Judiciary Police received a report earlier, indicating that multiple individuals engaging in illegal currency exchange activities in casinos often entered and exited a residential unit in the Nam Van District. After in-depth investigation, personnel of the Organized Crime Division confirmed the location of the relevant unit, with 8 mainlanders ferreted out from the abovementioned unit on 27th September 2023. All of them stated that they had resided at the unit at a daily rent of MOP150 each. Upon investigation, the Judiciary Police learned that among them, 4 male mainlanders were engaged in illegal currency exchange activities in Macao. Upon completion of relevant investigation and identity verification procedures, the four persons were swiftly transferred to the Border Control Department of the Public Security Police Force for handling, while the other four were permitted to leave.
Since there were signs indicating that the residential unit of the abovementioned persons had been used to operate illegal guesthouse, the Judiciary Police thereby reported the related issue to the Macao Government Tourism Office, which subsequently deployed personnel to seal off the unit.
