Macao man nabbed for job referral fraud
On 9th September 2023, the Public Security Police Force transferred a fraud case together with the victim, as well as the involved individual to the Judiciary Police. The Economic Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police promptly launched an investigation.
Case details revealed that, the mainland male victim became acquainted with the involved Macao man when he previously worked on a construction site. In late May 2023, the involved man told the victim that he had the ability to introduce mainlanders to work on construction sites in Macao, but had to receive a referral fee of RMB1,500 per person. Subsequently, the victim transferred a sum of RMB39,000 to the involved man’s online platform account as a referral fee for facilitating 26 relatives and friends to work in Macao. In addition, relevant identity documents and account details were given to the involved man. The other party promised to get everything done within two months, or else the whole sum would be refunded.
Until August 2023, apart from solely returning the identity documents of nine of the individuals, the involved man could neither introduce the aforesaid 26 individuals to work in Macao nor refund any money. On 9th September 2023, while working on the construction site, the victim encountered the involved man. Owing the fact that the victim failed to get back the relevant referral fee again, he suspected that he had been defrauded and called the police for assistance, reporting to have suffered a loss of RMB39,000.
The involved man confessed that he had committed the crime, and the relevant sum had all been gambled away. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of massive fraud.
