Macao female real estate agent apprehended for involvement in defrauding clients
From June to July 2023, the Judiciary Police received complaints from three Macao residents in succession, reporting that they had been defrauded of MOP354,000 and HKD600,000 by the same female real estate agent on the pretext of renting and selling apartments.
Upon investigation, personnel of the Economic Crimes Division found that, the involved woman had published real estate sales and rental advertisements on an online platform, and asked victims to pay deposits or rentals in advance on pretexts that owners were in urgent need of money or paying government fees on their behalf, etc. Among the victims, a female victim discovered that the involved woman had misappropriated the money. The involved woman then issued the female victim with two cheques as repayment. When the female victim cashed the cheques, she found that the cheques could not be cashed due to insufficient funds. In addition, two other male victims also found that they had been defrauded, and reported to the police for assistance in succession.
On August 9th, personnel of the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved woman in Taipa district. She admitted to defrauding the victims due to financial constraints caused by gambling. Most of the proceeds of fraud had been lost in gambling. The Judiciary Police transferred her to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (considerably huge amount), issuing rubber cheques and forgery of documents.
