Anti-crime patrol operation - continuous combat of illegal currency exchange activities
To continuously enhance the public security of casinos and their peripheries, via the “Prevention and Combat Against Illegal Exchange” cooperation mechanism established with gaming concessionaires, the Gaming-related Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police continuously adopted the “prevent-combat duo” measure. In early July 2023, the Judiciary Police criminal investigators, joined by the security personnel of several casinos in the Cotai district, were mobilized to conduct an anti-crime patrol operation targeting illegal currency exchange activities (the so-called “money exchange gang”) inside the casinos, hotels and shopping mall areas of the relevant gaming concessionaires.
During the operation, a total of 92 individuals (62 men and 30 women) were stopped and questioned by the personnel of the Judiciary Police. Among them, it was found that 36 individuals (21 men and 15 women) were suspected of engaging in illegal currency exchange activities.
Upon conducting identification procedures and investigation on the aforesaid 36 individuals, no involvement of other criminal offences was found. Hence, the Judiciary Police immediately transferred all of them to the Border Control Department of the Public Security Police Force for follow-up.
