Mainland man arrested for involvement in massive fraud
On 29th April 2021, the Judiciary Police received reports from two local women that they were defrauded through online shopping, incurring a loss of around MOP 34,000.
The case revealed that the two victims ordered a total of 16 bearbricks from an online webpage on 14th April 2021. They subsequently received and paid for the goods on 28th April 2021. When they opened the package, there were only nine fake bearbricks of another style. At the same time, the seller was out of reach.
The Judiciary Police launched an investigation upon receiving the case, which revealed that an involved mainland man had used a private vehicle to pick up four mainland men from the mainland to Macao, who then immediately proceeded to a logistic company in Areia Preta to collect the involved package and stuck a fake shipment waybill to the package. The Judiciary Police summoned the involved man for investigation on 10th September 2021, who denied to have committed the crime, but admitted that he had taken the other four men to collect the package. He claimed that he had no idea of the authenticity of the goods inside.
Based on investigative evidence, there was strong indication that the involved man had committed a criminal act. He was thus transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of massive fraud. The other involved men were still being pursued.
