Local man arrested for fraud and document falsification
A local man reported to the Judiciary Police on 19th February 2020 that he had been defrauded of HKD 60,000 by another local man on the pretext of selling a property.
Case details revealed that the involved man, allegedly in urgent need of cash flow, had sold his property in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province to the male victim for RMB 600,000 at the end of 2019. He had received a deposit of HKD 60,000 from the male victim and presented him a photo of a property ownership certificate that showed the involved man as the owner of the property. The duo signed a “guarantee letter” of property transfer in January 2020. When the male victim travelled to the location of the property to enquire the relevant authorities about ownership information of the involved property the next day, he realized that the owner of the property was not the involved man, who then admitted his non-possession of that property. Having lost contact with the involved man subsequently, the male victim suspected of fraud and reported to the police for assistance.
The involved man was captured by an investigation section of the Judiciary Police and taken in for investigation on 26th August 2021. Having admitted to his perpetration, he was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of fraud (massive amount) and document falsification.
