Macao man nabbed for involvement in aggravated larceny
On 6th July 2021, the Judiciary Police received a complaint from a hotel in the Cotai district, reporting that batteries for recycling, stored inside its staff car park, had been found stolen for multiple times. 748 pieces of batteries were involved and the hotel claimed that the batteries were valued at approximately MOP260,000 in total at the time when they were newly purchased.
The Judiciary Police launched investigation on the case and found that, since late June, a Macao man had been entering the car park to steal the batteries on multiple occasions. Subsequently, he would call a truck by phone to convey the batteries to a waste recycling shop in the northern district for selling off.
On July 14th, personnel of the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved man at the Fai Chi Kei district. The involved man admitted that he had been an aircon repairman at that hotel and was familiar with the placement of goods. He committed the crime due to unemployment, the ill-gotten gains of around MOP20,000 had already been spent for daily expenses.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated larceny.
