Female non-resident worker arrested for aggravated theft
On 24th May 2021, the Public Security Police Force informed the Judiciary Police of a theft case which occurred in a hotel room at the Central District. A mainland man reported that HKD91,000 of cash had been stolen.
The Judiciary Police learnt after investigation that, while gambling in a casino on May 21st, the male victim was accosted by a woman. The duo met up for a meal two days later, wherein the involved woman made excuses that she had nowhere to lodge, and requested to stay overnight in the hotel room rented by the victim. Until May 24th, after putting HKD91,000 into a suitcase, the victim went out with the involved woman who then left under a pretext. Afterwards, the victim returned to the room and realised that all the money was gone. The involved woman admitted to have stolen the victim’s money through an instant messaging app.
The Judiciary Police found that the involved woman had fled Macao via the Border Gate Checkpoint after perpetration. On July 2nd, she was intercepted at the Border Gate Checkpoint with the assistance of the Public Security Police Force. She confessed to the crime due to gambling loss, and had gambled away most of the money. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved woman to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated theft.
