Mainland Chinese man arrested for abuse of trust
A mainland Chinese man involved in abuse of trust was transferred to the Judiciary Police by the Public Security Police Force on 10th May 2021. Case details indicated that when the male victim from mainland China came to gamble in Macao on May 9th, he met with the involved fellow countryman, who had exchanged currency for him earlier, to exchange another HKD 238,000. The involved man subsequently offered to keep the victim’s belongings while accompanying the latter throughout his games. When the victim won around HKD 1.03 million of chips, he entrusted the involved man to exchange chips worth HKD 500,000 of the winnings into Reminbi and transfer it to a bank account in mainland China, while keeping the remaining amount.
On the evening of May 10th, the victim requested the involved man to cash out HKD 30,000 of chips and return the remaining chips, only to find out that the latter was nowhere to be seen. The doubtful victim, aided by the hotel security guards, managed to find the involved man, who had gambled away HKD 530,000. He thereupon reported to the police.
The Judiciary Police found that the involved man, who admitted to his perpetration, was an overstayer. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of abuse of trust (considerably huge amount).
