Local man arrested for aggravated theft
On 28th April 2021, the Judiciary Police received a theft case which had taken place in a unit at Rua do Canal Novo as referred by the Public Security Police Force. When the female victim of the case returned home in the early hours of 28th April 2021, she found a key being inserted in the front door’s keyhole of the unit, and her daughter was already at home. In addition, there were no obvious signs that the unit had been ransacked. Subsequent to careful checking, it was found that the cash, luxury watches and some of the jewellery stored respectively in the wardrobe drawers and the safe were missing, incurring a total loss of approximately MOP100,000.
Investigation by the Judiciary Police confirmed that the key inserted in the front door’s keyhole of the unit was forgotten to be pulled out by the daughter of the victim when she returned home. Subsequently, it was determined that the victim’s boyfriend, who lived in the same unit, was involved in the case. He admitted that he had stolen the valuables of the victim on multiple occasions due to his loss in gambling, and pawned the booty in a number of pawnshops in Macao between 25th March and 26th April 2021, while all the proceeds of crime had already been gambled away.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of aggravated theft and fraud (massive amount), and managed to retrieve the watches and jewellery of the victim from the pawnshops.
O prejuízo total ronda as 100.000 patacas.
