Local man arrested for fraud of considerably huge amount
A local man reported to the Judiciary Police in November 2020 that he had been defrauded of HKD 150,000 by another local man on the pretext of speculative investment in concert tickets.
Investigation revealed that in early 2019, the involved man, a shareholder of a local entertainment production company, falsely claimed to the victim that he was organising the concert of a Hong Kong singer and investing in the ticket sales of a Korean singer’s concert, for which he could allegedly acquire the tickets at a preferential price to be resold for a profit. The unbeknownst victim, being lured into the investment, successively handed HKD 150,000 of cash to the involved man. Subsequently realising that the concerts had been cancelled due to the pandemic, the victim questioned the involved man, only to find out that the so-called “investment” was merely the purchase of tickets through mainland private channels without any proof of purchase. The involved man, despite his promise to repay the related money, failed to do so as of November 2020. Suspected of fraud, the victim reported to the police.
The involved man was intercepted upon his return from mainland China to Macao on 28th January 2021. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office, upon interrogation by the Judiciary Police, for the charge of fraud (considerably huge amount).
