Five persons arrested and intercepted in the joint combat against illegal immigration by the Judiciary Police and Macao Customs Service
Having received intelligence recently that a criminal syndicate had been assisting others to sneak across the border of Macao during the pandemic, the Judiciary Police grasped the pattern of operation of the syndicate and made deployment jointly with Macao Customs Service via “Anti-illegal Immigration Working Group”.
The Judiciary Police and Macao Customs Service took joint action on the evening of 16th January 2021. The Judiciary Police intercepted five persons near Cheoc Van Beach, including one overstaying mainland Chinese man responsible for coordinating the illegal immigrants, a woman who had just illegally entered Macao, as well as three local and mainland Chinese individuals about to illegally leave Macao. Meanwhile, Macao Customs Service intercepted the involved speedboat on the sea, but it sped out of Macao waters dangerously.
Investigation revealed that the involved mainland Chinese man had assisted others in illegal immigration, receiving a reward of RMB 2,000 from the criminal syndicate per person each time, while the criminal syndicate had charged each illegal immigrant anywhere from RMB 18,000 to 55,000. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man, charged with criminal syndicate and assisting, alongside the four illegal immigrants, to the Public Prosecutions Office.
