Mainland female non-resident worker arrested for abuse of trust
On 6th October 2020, the person in charge of a piano company filed a complaint at the Judiciary Police, stating that a female non-resident worker had embezzled HKD 140,000 and over MOP 30,000 of the company’s revenue.
Case details revealed that, when checking the account, the person in charge of the piano company found that the aforementioned female non-resident worker had not deposited the revenue of the company made between 5th and 15th September 2020 to the designated bank account. The female worker only admitted the embezzlement after being repeatedly probed, then signed an IOU and promised to return the amount soon. However, the repayment had been stalled. It was only when the person in charge of the company reported the case to the police that the involved woman repaid an amount equivalent to around MOP 20,000 via mobile apps, then went into hiding in Macao.
Until December 29th, the involved woman turned herself in at the Judiciary Police and assisted in the investigation. She admitted that after embezzling the revenue of the company, she had gambled away most of the amount while returning a small part of it to the company. The involved woman was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of abuse of trust.
