Two persons arrested for sham marriage
The Judiciary Police was requested earlier by the Public Prosecutions Office to investigate a case of sham marriage, in which a local man had been rewarded for engaging in sham marriage with a mainland Chinese woman to apply for Macao residence permit for her two sons.
Investigation revealed that a mainland Chinese couple had planned for sham marriage such that their sons could stay in Macao. After the couple divorced in mainland China in 2009, the involved woman promptly registered marriage with the involved local man in mainland China, while paying the latter RMB 40,000 as a reward and subsequently cohabiting with her ex-husband in mainland China. When the involved woman gave birth to a third son with her ex-husband in 2011, the involved man posed as his biological father to register birth for him. On the ground of family reunion, the involved woman and her eldest and second sons successfully obtained their Macao SAR Non-permanent Resident Identity Card in 2015. The involved duo was successively taken in for investigation on 10th December 2020. A notebook containing the information of the involved woman and her sons was seized from the involved man.
The Judiciary Police transferred the duo to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of falsification of documents of significant value and forgery of documents, while continuing to pursue other involved persons.
