Mainland man arrested for theft in stores
On 7th November 2020, the Judiciary Police received reports of burglary from two stores at Lago Nam Van and Avenida do Almirante Lacerda respectively. The front gates of both stores showed traces of damage, while one of which was opened and MOP30,000 was stolen from the cash register.
Two men were found at the store at Lago Nam Van in the wee hours of that day through the Macao citywide electronic surveillance system and the surveillance footage in the periphery where the crime occurred, who had forcibly pulled open the steel front gate of the store but to no avail. They subsequently proceeded to the store at Avenida do Almirante Lacerda, using the same modus operandi to open the store’s steel front gate and snuck in. After that, the men used a screwdriver to pry open the cash register and stole the money, and fled Macao via the Border Gate checkpoint thereupon.
Until November 28th, the Judiciary Police found that one of the involved mainland men had re-entered Macao, and intercepted the man when he was preparing to leave Macao on November 30th. He confessed that he had come to Macao together with the mainland man on the run for gambling, and committed the crime as he had gambled away the money. He had exchanged the proceeds of crime into Renminbi in mainland and brought along to Macao for spending. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated theft, while pursuing other involved individuals.
