Three Filipinos arrested in the crackdown of a drug parcel case
The Judiciary Police received intelligence some time ago, indicating that a transnational drug trafficking syndicate had switched to smuggling drugs by postal parcels in order to circumvent various entry restrictions implemented during the pandemic. Having conducted intelligence exchange and joint investigation with the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau of Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, the Judiciary Police realized that the related drug parcel was to be sent from Thailand to Macao on 23rd November 2020, thus an operation was deployed collectively thereupon.
The Judiciary Police personnel intercepted a man and a woman receiving the involved parcel, as well as an involved man acting as a lookout on the afternoon of that very day in the San Kio district. 260 grams of the drug “ice” worth around MOP858,000 were seized from the secret compartments of several wooden products in the parcel, meanwhile one of the men was found in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigation revealed that the two arrested men were Macao residents of Filipino descent, while the arrested Filipina was an overstayer. The three individuals admitted that they were instructed by the drug trafficking syndicate to receive and transfer the drug parcel, and they would obtain a reward ranging from MOP4,000 to MOP10,000 respectively after successful perpetration. All of their urine tests yielded positive results for drugs. The Judiciary Police brought charges of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and illegal consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances against the three arrested individuals, with an additional charge of improper possession of utensils or equipment laid against one of the involved men. The Judiciary Police transferred the trio to the Public Prosecutions Office for investigation and handling, while carrying out in-depth investigation on the origin of the drugs and pursuing other involved individuals.
