Four high school students apprehended for cyberbullying
On 14th October 2020, a female student of a high school found that she was secretly photographed and the photo was shared on the classmate group via social communication app without her consent, causing gossip, forwarding and ridicule among the group members. The girl, seeing the situation of cyberbullying deteriorating, informed the teacher of the incident subsequently. On November 19th, the school notified the Youth Concern Group of the Judiciary Police via the “Communication Network for School Safety” mechanism for intervention and handling.
Upon receiving the report, the Judiciary Police followed up in accordance with the existing mechanism and, with the assistance of the school, found successively four male junior high students studying in three different schools respectively on November 19th and 20th. The four admitted that they had shared or forwarded the involved photograph for fun and had ridiculed the girl. The Judiciary Police transferred the four male students to the Public Prosecutions Office for invasion of private life in accordance with the “Educational and Tutelage Regime of Juvenile Offenders”, while pursuing the origin of the involved photograph.
