Two women arrested for involvement in framing others
In October 2020, the Judiciary Police received a fraud case referred by the Public Security Police Force. Two mainland women claimed that, through an instant messaging software, they got acquainted with an individual who persuaded them to invest in a casino junket in Macao. The individual also alleged that they would receive a 5% return of their investment per day. The duo injected a fund totalling RMB500,000 together. Yet, they had not received a return all along. After constant questionings, both parties scheduled to meet at a hotel in the Cotai district. On the meeting day, the duo signed an investment agreement with two mainland men who came to negotiate with them. During the course, they found that one of the men had signed under a pseudonym. Thus, they reported to the police that the two men had committed fraud.
After in-depth investigation, the Judiciary Police unearthed that the two women who filed the complaint had already known earlier that, the so-called “investment” was in fact their gambling capital. In addition, the duo mastered the winnings and losings in each bet, thus obviously showing a discrepancy with what they had stated previously. The Judiciary Police transferred the duo to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of false accusation.
