Local man nabbed for fraud on pretext of providing sexual services
The Judiciary Police received a report from a local man in early October 2020, who alleged that he had been defrauded of MOP3,800 by a man on the pretext of provision of sexual services.
Investigation revealed that the victim previously got acquainted with the involved man on a mobile social networking platform, who claimed to be able to offer sexual services, yet the victim had to advance MOP300 to the man’s e-wallet. After the victim had made the payment and upon his arrival at the agreed hotel in the Central district, the involved man requested the victim to make further transfers with various pretexts before he could provide the hotel guestroom number and show up. The involved man became out of touch after payment was made again by the victim, with a loss of MOP3,800 incurred.
Subsequent to in-depth investigation by the Judiciary Police, an involved local man was identified and found having defrauded at least three other persons. As such, the Judiciary Police apprehended the involved man in his residence on October 8th with seizure of four telephone cards used to open online accounts and receive fraudulent payments. The involved man admitted to having committed fraud under the guise of offering vice services on social networking platform and had swindled approximately MOP5,000 by the time he was arrested, while the crime proceeds had already been spent on daily living expenses. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (making a living out of fraud), with follow-up investigation on whether more individuals had been defrauded.
