Three individuals arrested on charges of fraud (considerably huge amount), forgery of documents and money laundering
In March 2020, the Judiciary Police received a case referred by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, alleging that former senior officials of a school in the Northern District of Macao, in conjunction with an engineering company, had forged documents to the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, defrauding the government of more than MOP20 million of subventions.
Investigation by the Judiciary Police found that the involved school had applied to the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau for subvention schemes of 582 courses and hardware construction projects in total from 2014 to 2016, involving an amount of MOP20,384,500, yet only 61 of these items had been completed. The rest were not carried out or did not exist at all, and the contents of the reports submitted by the school to the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau in the previous two years were all forged.
On 28th September 2020, a former female senior official of the school, a male and a female staff member of the involved engineering company were respectively brought back to the Judiciary Police by its personnel for investigation. As there were strong indications that each of them had deliberately committed the crime, the Judiciary Police transferred the three involved individuals to the Public Prosecutions Office for three offences including fraud (considerably huge amount), forgery of documents and money laundering.
