Two individuals arrested for sham marriage
The Judiciary Police received a complaint in mid-2019, alleging that a mainland man had applied for residence in Macao for himself and his son through a sham marriage with a local woman.
Upon investigation and analysis by the Judiciary Police, it was found that the man and the woman involved were family friends, who got married separately and had children of their own. In order to obtain the right of abode in Macao, the involved man conspired with the involved woman to enter into a false marriage. The two individuals had divorced their spouses in 2011 and 2012 respectively, and later they completed the marriage formalities in mainland. Until February 2018, the involved man and his son successfully obtained the right of abode in Macao on the grounds of family reunification. They gave the involved woman a reward of MOP50,000 thereupon.
The Judiciary Police intercepted the duo on 14th September 2020, and subsequently transferred them to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of falsification of documents of special value and forgery of documents.
