Case of drug trafficking by courier cracked jointly with Mainland Police, with two men apprehended
In April 2020, in order to act in concert with the nationwide specialized operation “Border Purification 2020” deployed by the China National Narcotics Control Committee, along with the various cases of drug trafficking by courier cracked previously, the Judiciary Police continued to strengthen the exchange of narcotic intelligence with the Mainland Police.
On 29th August 2020, the Judiciary Police received intelligence from the Mainland Police, indicating that a parcel being sent from mainland to a collection service company in Macao contained drugs, and therefore requested the Judiciary Police to follow up. Subsequent to initial investigation, the facial features and the local residence of the parcel recipient, as well as the receiving address of the abovementioned parcel were identified.
Until August 31st, the Judiciary Police was notified that the involved parcel had arrived Macao, forthwith deploying with the Macao Customs Service to conduct close surveillance over the whole delivery process of the parcel to the Taipa branch of the aforementioned collection service company. Two local men were intercepted by the Judiciary Police personnel after they had collected the parcel, in which 0.52 grams of lysergic acid diethylamide (commonly known as LSD), worth around MOP3,000, were found. In addition, suspected illicit drug proceeds of MOP1,000 were seized.
The two involved men admitted to their habit of taking “LSD” and marijuana, and confessed to have used the same method to purchase marijuana for self-consumption in July. The Judiciary Police transferred the duo to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charges of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and illegal consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
