Two African women apprehended for drug trafficking
The Judiciary Police received intelligence indicating that international drug trafficking syndicates have changed their drug trafficking modus operandi and routes recently. After strengthening the screening and analysis of flights coming into Macao, it was found that two female passengers holding Guinea passports, who were arriving on a flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Macao in the wee hours of 17th February 2020, were very suspicious. Deployment was therefore set up immediately and interception was conducted.
According to the available information, the two women were trafficking drugs through the method of body-cavity concealment. Thus, the Judiciary Police conducted examinations on them through the X-ray body scanner, and confirmed that oval-shaped objects were found in their bodies. The pair confessed that they flew from Guinea to Ethiopia on February 14th, and swallowed drugs in oval-shaped packages in a local hotel room, then flew to Macao via Thailand. The pair later excreted 130 pieces of cocaine at Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário, with a total weight of 2,080 grams and worth around 6.8 million patacas.
The pair claimed that they were recruited by the same drug trafficking syndicate due to financial difficulties, and had received 1,800 US dollars for travel expenses. If they could successfully enter Macao, they would wait for further instructions from the drug trafficking syndicate, and would receive 4,000 US dollars as a reward upon completion of the task and returning to Guinea.
The Judiciary Police transferred the pair to the Public Prosecutions Office with the offence of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for handling while pursuing the other involved persons and the origin of drugs.
