Pseudo base station criminal syndicate busted, arresting 3 man and women
Continuing with the combat against illegal acts involving pseudo base station, the Judiciary Police identified several pseudo base station hubs which were under the same criminal syndicate but distributed in different districts after investigation. First of all, on 26th March 2018, personnel were deployed to search two apartments in a building in the Border Gate district, seizing multiple sets of pseudo base station equipment and intercepting a mainland man and a Vietnamese woman. With clues from investigation, the Judiciary Police busted 3 pseudo base station hubs in the ZAPE and NAPE districts the following day, with a mainland woman apprehended and pseudo base station equipment seized. In two days, there were 22 sets of pseudo base station equipment, a luggage case for concealing the equipment of mobile pseudo base station and a set of pseudo base station accessories seized.
Investigation revealed that the involved pseudo base station hubs started operation in September 2017, mainly sending out text messages about online gaming, usury, selling tools for fraudulent gambling, etc. The involved mainland man was the core member of the syndicate, while the two women apprehended operated the pseudo base station for remuneration.
The Judiciary Police transferred the three to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of criminal syndicate, interference of computer system, computer devices or computer data for perpetrating crime, tools for hacking communications, and continue to pursue the mastermind of the criminal syndicate. Since the involved apartments were suspected of illegal hostel operation, the Macao Government Tourism Office was notified for follow-up.
