Cracked counterfeit chip case, with two mainlanders apprehended
The Judiciary Police received a complaint from a casino at the Cotai area on 22nd July 2017, claiming that two men were found using counterfeit chips. Investigation was launched upon receipt of the case, and revealed that the two involved mainland men arrived Macao on the day of the crime, and initially contacted another accomplice (still at large) at the abovementioned casino so as to get 100 counterfeit chips with a face value of HKD10,000 each. Afterwards, by exchanging chips or betting in games, they cheated HKD350,000 from the casino, yet their crime acts were finally discovered by the dealer. During the investigation, 85 counterfeit chips with a face value of HKD10,000 each were seized on the two men and on the gambling table. As there were a total of 6 similar cases reported from the same casino since July 19th, involving 32 counterfeit chips with a face value of HKD10,000, and the characteristics of the related counterfeit chips were highly identical, the Judiciary Police do not rule out the possibility that these cases were committed by the same criminal syndicate. The Judiciary Police transferred the two involved men to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charge of fraud (considerably huge amount), while continue pursuing the persons at large.
