The Criminal Intelligence Division is primarily accountable to organise, install, examine, and maintain an automated registry system that stores criminal and police records, in order to back-up the probing of crimes that the Judiciary Police had been assigned to investigate.

In addition, the Criminal Intelligence Division is accountable to prevent and investigate crimes provided for by Article 7-1 of the Law No. 5/2006.

To meet with the MSAR's actual requirements and duly fulfil its responsibilities, the following sub-units are attached to the Criminal Intelligence Division:

Intelligence Analysis Unit

The Intelligence Analysis Unit performs under the Criminal Intelligence Division and it is primarily accountable to gather and examine criminal reports, deal with and review criminal intelligence, provide the required information to the criminal investigation units and back them up in their investigative efforts.

Operations Support Unit

The Operations Support Unit is primarily accountable to provide all the necessary backing to the investigation units.

Technical Support Unit

The Technical Support Unit is accountable to provide specialist support.

Investigative Unit

The Investigative Unit is responsible to investigate and coordinate the enquiries in criminal proceedings that are being dealt with by other investigation units.

Statistics Unit

The Statistics Unit is primarily responsible to provide figures on data related to crimes and make periodical reports regarding criminal activities in order to back-up the criminal investigation units with their enquiries, namely the identification of the needs, so as to assist in the planning of police operation.
