The Telecommunications Division performs under the IT and Communications Management Department and, with the backing of the upper hierarchy, this division is primarily accountable to carry out technical studies in the area of telecommunications to prevent and suppress high-tech crimes. This division is specially tasked to study, within the sphere of telecommunications, the current situation and trends of criminal offences committed with the recourse of high technology; study strategies for criminal prevention and render assistance to the criminal investigation departments in the probing of crimes committed with the recourse of scientific methods and equipment.
As regards internal governance, the Telecommunications Division also participates in the management of telecommunication equipments within the Judiciary Police so as to conceive, install, rationalize and preserve the telecommunications systems and electronic equipments, and guarantee their safety; study and consider the upgrading by denoting recommendations to improve the equipments and proceed with the relevant acquisitions. Furthermore, the Telecommunications Division ensures the maintenance and management of the high-technology equipments employed in investigation, and also ensures, in the sphere of telecommunications, that links with the Directorate of Telecommunications Regulatory Body, providers of telecommunications networks, security services and similar institutions, are maintained.
