Criminal Investigation Department
The primary functions of the Criminal Investigation Department are the prevention and investigation of crimes, as stipulated in Subparagraphs 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12 of Paragraph 1 of Article 7 of Law no. 5/2006, that culprits are unknown and punishable by a sentence of imprisonment of a maximum term of exceeding 3 years; crimes involving narcotics and psychotropic substances trafficking; crimes of deprivation of others' freedom of movement;
crimes of enslaving human; crimes of kidnapping or hostage taking; crimes committed by means of violence against assets of banks, other credit or financial institutions, public sectors or entities; crimes of theft of movables with special values; crimes of criminal syndicates or triads; crimes of using illegal dosage of substances on animals for racing; and crimes of terrorism, etc.
The Department also undertakes the functions to compile investigative dossiers, investigative transcripts, incidents occurrence transcripts for the above crimes. Moreover, the Department is responsible for the registration and filing of incoming and outgoing documents, the provision of relevant statistical information, and the proper safe keeping of seizure. The Department has two offices, including the Adminstrative Office and the Archives.
The Narcotics Division and Organized Crime Division were also established in the Department.
In addition, the Department is also empowered to prevent and investigate crimes, which have been authorized to the PJ, by stipulations of law or by the Prosecutor General.

Narcotics Division |
Narcotics Division is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. Its primary function is to prevent and investigate crimes as stipulated in Paragraph 1 of Article 7 of Law no. 5/2006, that culprits are unknown and can be punishable by a sentence of imprisonment of a maximum term of exceeding 3 years, crimes regarding the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic related substances, etc.

Organized Crime Division |
The Organized Crime Division is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. Its primary function is to prevent and investigate crimes as stipulated in Paragraph 1 of Article 7 of Law no. 5/2006, that culprits are unknown and can be punishable by a sentence of imprisonment of a maximum term of exceeding 3 years, crimes of deprivation of others' freedom of movement, crimes of enslaving human, crimes of hostage taking, crimes of criminal syndicates or triads, crimes of using illegal dosage of substances on animals for racing; and crimes of terrorism, etc.

1st Section - Section for Offences against Persons |
The Section for Offences against Persons (1st Section) is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. It is mainly responsible for the investigation of criminal cases involving offences against persons, particularly homicide, offence against human bodily integrity, rape, kidnapping, etc.

2nd Section - Section for Offences against Property |
The Section for Offences against Property (2nd Section) is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. It is mainly responsible for the investigation of criminal cases involving offences against proprietorship, such as theft of various types, sabotage, usurpation of immovables, etc.

4th Section - Robbery Offences Section |
The Robbery Offences Section (4th Section) is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. It is mainly responsible for the investigation of criminal cases involving offences committed with violence against proprietorship, such as robbery, and extortion, etc.

Arson Offences Section |
The Arson Offences Section is subordinate to the Criminal Investigation Department. It is mainly responsible for the investigation of criminal cases involving offences of initiating a fire, explosives and other particularly dangerous acts, etc.
