The Criminal Investigation Department is primarily accountable to prevent and investigate crimes referred to in Article 7-1 of the Law No. 5/2006, particularly the ones that are liable to be punished by imprisonment with the maximum term exceeding 3 years in jail, when it involves an unknown culprit, and other crimes such us: trafficking in dangerous drugs and psychotropic substances; kidnapping; slavery; abduction or hostage taking; crimes against assets committed with violence in banks, other credit and financial institutions, as well as in public services or entities; theft of movables that have significant value; criminal association or criminal conspiracy or triad society; doping of animals intended for racing, and terrorism.
This Department is also accountable to handle investigative proceedings, keep records of inquiries and incidents, as well as the incoming and outgoing correspondence, provide relevant statistics, and ensure that seized items are maintained and safeguarded.
Attached to this Department are: Administrative Support Secretariat and Archives.
In addition, the Criminal Investigation Department undertakes preventative and investigative actions on crime related issues, which probing shall, by law, fall under the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Police, or those that it had been assigned by the Attorney General to probe.

Narcotics Division |
The Narcotics Division performs under the Criminal Investigation Department. Primarily, it is accountable to prevent and investigate those crimes referred to in Article 7-1 of the Law No. 5/2006, particularly the ones that are liable to be punished by imprisonment with the maximum term exceeding 3 years in jail, when it involves an unknown culprit, and crimes related to trafficking in dangerous drugs and psychotropic substances.

Organized Crime Division |
The Organised Crime Division performs under the Criminal Investigation Department. It is first and foremost accountable to prevent and investigate those crimes referred to in Article 7-1 of the Law No. 5/2006, particularly the ones that are liable to be punished by imprisonment with the maximum term exceeding 3 years in jail, when it involves an unknown culprit, and other crimes such us: kidnapping, slavery, abduction or hostage taking; criminal association or criminal conspiracy or triad society; doping of animals intended for racing, and terrorism.

1st Section (Offence against Persons) |
The Section dealing with Offences Against Persons (1 st Section) performs under the Criminal Investigation Department, and it is primarily accountable to investigate offences against persons, particularly Homicides, Assaults, Rapes, Kidnappings, etc.

2nd Section (Offence against Property) |
The Section dealing with Criminal Damages Against Property (2 nd Section) performs under the Criminal Investigation Department, and it is primarily accountable to investigate crimes against property such us Theft (in all its variants), Criminal Damage, Usurpation of Real Estate, etc.

4th Section (Robbery) |
The Section dealing with the investigation and suppression of Robbery (4 th Section) performs under the Criminal Investigation Department, and it is primarily accountable to investigate crimes against property committed with the use of violence such us Robbery, Extortions, etc.

Criminal and Intelligence Records and Technical Support Section ( Police Records and Intelligence Archives, Criminal Photography, Fingerprints Unit) |
The Criminal and Intelligence Records and Technical Support Section performs under the Criminal Investigation Department, and it is primarily accountable to keep the indexes and handle criminal intelligence, run the relevant equipments, and back-up criminal investigation units. In view of its role, this section includes the following: Police Records and Intelligence Archives, Criminal Photography Unit and Fingerprints Unit.

Vehicle's Management Section |
The Vehicles' Management Section performs under the Criminal Investigation Department, and it is primarily accountable for the allocation of official vehicles entrusted to the Judiciary Police, as well as the repairing and maintenance of such vehicles.
