Branch Location: Estrada Flor de Lótus (next to the Immigration Checkpoint in COTAI)
The criminal investigation subunits and the Stand-by Unit of the COTAI Branch of the Judiciary Police became functional in 6th of August 2007. Since the transport network in that area is still limited or inadequate, the Judiciary Police is currently providing, on a temporary basis, a shuttle service between the Judiciary Police Headquarters at Rua Central and its COTAI Branch, to enable tourists and local residents to file their complaints or to assist in basic enquiries. There is a special transport service that makes round trips every 30 minutes, between the COTAI Branch and the Headquarters of the Judiciary Police in Macau, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday; on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, such a service is also provided whenever necessary. Everyone may benefit from this service, should they stand in need of it. The COTAI Branch is continuously on duty, and this means that it's readily available round the clock. Due to security reason, its main entrance is closed between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. (of the following day). Nonetheless, should any person wishes to file a complaint or seeking help during that period, he/she may do so by ringing the doorbell, which is to be found outside the main entrance.
In addition, crimes can be reported to the following sub-units of this Police:

Due to security reasons, its doorway is closed between 0 9 :00pm and 0 9 :00am of the following day. However, citizens can, at any time, press the doorbell button to raise the attention of the duty-officers and be allowed in to file a report or look for help.

Useful Hints for Filing a Report |
|
Citizens would be Asked to Provide their Personal Details when Filling Reports
To facilitate the enquiries, citizens will be asked to provide their identification details and contact number(s) when filling reports. One must try his/her best to be as accurate as possible while reporting a crime. Always remember that the omission of any relevant piece of information might cause delays and difficulties to the police investigation.
Circumstances under which, victims are required to formally state that he/she wishes to pursue with criminal proceedings against the culprits.
When a person files a criminal complaint with the Judiciary Police by post, e-mail or fax, and should it (the Judiciary Police) be dealing with a half-public or private offence, in light of Macao Code of Criminal Proceedings provisions, the victim or his/her attorney must call at the Judiciary Police in person, to make a formal statement indicating that he/she wishes to pursue with criminal proceedings against the culprit. This shall be done at the first available opportunity, and the interested parties must bear in mind that such a statement is a basic requirement to initiate preliminary proceedings related to the type of crimes mentioned-above.
Circumstances under which the Judiciary Police accepts crime reports from unidentified persons.
Should a citizen be a witness at the scene of an incidence or should it come to his/her notice that a crime has been committed, the Judiciary Police accepts that the person concerned files a report without revealing his/her personal identification details (anonymous report).
Clues that are vital for inquiries.
Regardless of the means that have been chosen to file their reports, it is important that citizens state the facts clearly, and the information that they provide shall include: the type of crime, the time and place, and how it all happened; the number of wounded and/or death persons; the cost of damages, as well the identification details of the culprit (if the culprit is an unknown person, than, and whenever possible, provide a description of such a person, to include the approximate age; gender; appearance; clothing and ornaments and any other relevant details), and also the escape route, tools used to commit the offence, etc. These details would help the Police to understand the circumstances under which the crime was committed, thus smoothing the progress of the preliminary inquiries.
In all circumstances, and whenever possible, particularly in cases that involve theft or robbery in premises, victims, as well as those bystanders who might be willing to assist, shall block and stop people from moving in and out of the crime scene. In order to preserve traces, victims shall wait for police specialist to arrive and, while waiting, they must not touch or handle any object found in the scene, including tools that the offenders might have used to commit the crime, but left them behind while fleeing. On arrival, the police specialists will start investigating the scene. They will search for and collect any piece of evidence related to the crime, including the lifting of fingerprints, if traces are found, and any other clues that are tough to be handy for bringing together additional leads to solve the case.
Should the stolen goods, either by theft or robbery, have certificates and/or serial numbers, their relevant details shall be passed onto the Police, as well as their photos and/or sketches, if available. The reason being that these data might help to cause the arrest of the culprits before they sell or dispose the stolen goods.
And, let's stress again what has been said before: "To facilitate the enquiries, citizens will be asked to provide their personal identification details and contact number(s) when filling reports. One must try his/her best to be as accurate as possible while reporting a crime. Always remember that the omission of any relevant piece of information might cause delays and difficulties to the police investigation."
Warning. Providing false statements may result in criminal prosecution.
One must bear in mind that deliberated false statements or practical jokes will not be tolerated. Please be conscious of the fact that, apart from unnecessary waste of police resources, such practices (deliberated false statements or practical jokes) are contrary to the law and will be punished with criminal sanctions, if found guilty.
