Be alert of counterfeit notes
 

  1. UV Lamp
    It is the most common tool to detect the genuineness of a banknote. Under ultra-violet light, concealed images, patterns and fibres will fluoresce on the genuine note.
    Please note: the watermark on each banknote is clearly visible when it is held up to the light. However, it will not fluoresce under ultra-violet light
  2. Paper and Quality of Print
    Genuine banknotes should be crisp and slightly rough in the heavily printed areas, whilst the print should be sharp and well-defined.
  3. News Update
    Always keep track of news about the latest security features of banknotes.
Always check the genuineness of banknotes upon receipt of payment
 
  • While a banknote is suspected of being counterfeit.
  • Never accept it.
  • Report to the Judiciary Police on 993 immediately.
If you have received counterfeit notes without knowing it:
 

  • Never attempt to use the fake notes again.
  • Never keep fake banknotes as souvenirs.
  • Do not attempt to tear up or dispose of the counterfeit notes.
  • Report to the police the time, the location and the quantity of counterfeit notes received.

Printing or using counterfeit notes is a serious crime which carries a maximum of
12 years' imprisonment according to sections 252 and 255 of the Penal Code of Macao.

Using counterfeit notes will gain you nothing but troubles
